Field Notes February 3, 2010
I just had a development meeting with a prominent figure in the local venture community. I almost didn’t get the meeting, because this smart, plugged-in guy didn’t immediately get our mission.
As we sit down to talk, he tells me that he had been puzzled by our pitch, but that before dismissing my request for a meeting, he sent the material on to his daughter. With pride, he tells me of his daughter’s accomplishments. She’s in her mid-twenties, on the fast track at a Fortune 100 technology company and applying to business school. Her reaction? “Dad, this is so cool. If business school doesn’t work out, can you get me job with GoodCompany Ventures?”
I got the meeting.
If you don’t get what were up to at GCV, you might want to ask your kids.
